Benefits of Doula Care
Less Pain in Labor
People with doula support are 28% less likely to report dissatisfaction with pain management during labor, and often report lower perceived pain levels overall.
Higher Birth Satisfaction
Doula support leads to a 31% decrease in negative birth experiences, higher overall satisfaction with the birth process, and a 65% reduction in the likelihood of postpartum depression.
Reduced risk
People who have continuous support from a doula are 39% less likely to have a cesarean birth and are twice as likely to initiate breastfeeding and sustain it longer
Closing Care Gaps
Due to systemic barriers and inequities (both past and present), Black and Queer families face unique challenges in navigating healthcare and are at higher risk for traumatic birth experiences. Black birthing people are over twice as likely to undergo unnecessary cesareans and experience postpartum depression at higher rates. They are less likely to have their pain believed or adequately treated and have the lowest breastfeeding initiation rates in the U.S.
Culturally competent doulas help advocate for appropriate pain management, offer comfort techniques, and counteract systemic neglect.
My Approach
We all deserve a great birth story.
Through culturally competent, empowering, and personalized care, I'll help you write yours.
I offer care rooted in cultural humility, respect, and deep listening. Every birthing person brings their own history, identity, and intuition into the experience, and I honor that fully. The healthcare system too often fails to see us—especially if you are Black, Brown, Queer, or Trans. Reclaiming care is about holding space for your full self. I believe you are the expert on your own body, and my role is to support you in reconnecting with that wisdom. I provide evidence-based information, emotional grounding, and fierce advocacy so you can make informed choices and move through birth feeling seen, safe, and empowered. Your comfort, autonomy, and sense of self are at the center of everything I do.

About Me
Hi, I'm Alex! I hold an MA in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University, where I centered my research on the stories and lived experiences of Black Queer people. My professional background weaves together social justice, early childhood education, and community-centered care. I've designed youth curricula on sex education and social justice, directed a play-based program supporting families with young children, and worked in organizational development focused on equity, inclusion, and community empowerment.
I earned my doula certification through Black Women Birthing Justice and Grounded Beginnings, and I bring all of this experience—academic, personal, and professional—into my work as a doula.
I'm proud to call Oakland home, where I’ve planted deep roots with my partner and our child. This community shapes and sustains the work I do every day.
